The Fourth of July!

Mady's Fourth of July started with a jog with Daddy in her jogging stroller. Then she got dressed in her special outfit and we got ready to go to my parents house. The Villa Park parade goes right down my parents street so we got to sit in their front yard to watch the parade (just like last year). After the parade we grilled steaks and had an amazing picnic lunch. We spent the day celebrating my brothers birthday, playing bags, and hanging out in the front yard of my parents house. When it was time for fireworks we went to Oakbook Terrace to watch them (our tradition). We weren't sure how Mady was going to respond to the fireworks but we sure wanted to give it a try. Last year she did really well, laying with Granadine on a blanket and watching them. This year she wasn't sure. If you don't know when Mady is tired or scared she sucks her thumb (more like gnaws on it!). When the fireworks started she was definitely a little scared. It was almost like someone watching a scary movie. She would look at them and then look away to suck her thumb. She would look again and then she'd look away and suck her thumb. It was like she wanted to look but just wasn't sure. At one point she had both thumbs in her mouth! We tried laying on the blanket to see if she'd watch them. I had to sing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" for her to stay calm but halfway through the show she relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the show!
